Zaman Kanak-kanak Riang ~

Rasanya, belum lagi aku menulis nukilan kerinduan ini. Aku merindui zaman kanak-kanak ku. Saat suka duka dari New Boy sehinggalah bergelar Old Putera (OP).

Well, I think we did achieved success in our life. Our friendship lasts forever, brother-in-arms.

Semester 01 Final Project Viva (Bachelor of Interior Architecture (Hons))

The Presentation Boards

The Studio 01/2011 residential space design project. The final project for the current semester. We were to chose our very own local public figure as our client and propose a design for their apartment. This is just a simulation based design task given by Assoc. Prof. Jazman & Assoc. Prof Hilmiah. For myself, I chose the actor Ashraf Muslim as my client. Reasons for having him as the client, wow !!! He's considered a perfect guy to look up to. He's an actor, he can cure people (Insyaallah), he can host, he can motivate and lastly he's an entrepreneur.

A bit of his background. He was born on 12th Sept 1981. Eldest among 8 siblings. Attended Sekolah Rantau Petronas and graduated from the Royal Military College in 1995. He obtained a diploma in business management from KLIUC. Started acting career in 2006 as an actor in Impian Illiyana drama. He's currently managing a family business in animal breeding and operates the islamic treatment centre called Al-Hidayah in Gombak. Recently, he wed to Noor Dayana Hj. Lokman, his mentor's daughter.

The concept:

Life is like petals of flower. It combines everything, from space, body and the mind. It connects the spiritual needs of a single entity by various petals.

The space designed for Ashraf Muslim suits his need for leisure and fulfilling his career needs. A man with vision.

My side of story:

The project started on the very first day of study week. Now that is the real challenge for this new semester. Everyone seems busy doing their revision but I still need to work out on my design and drawings. I was so anxious and excited to working on my first real interior design project. I wanna score for this design. It looks like simple, but the development process is tiring and full of critic sessions.

It was so tiring. I had to sleep, eat and work at the studio. But I prefer to sleep at the hostel rather than the studio. My daily routine, sleep during day and work during night. Wake up at 2 p.m., then sleep at 6 a.m. My daily routine for the past 5 weeks. The best part of it, as a first year student, we are required to draw every plans, elevations, sections and perspective views manually. It means with hands. No AutoCAD permitted. Then, we rendered the drawings and photocopy each one of it and placed on the presentation boards. *Sigh* Back to basic ... Finally, it all comes to an end (for now, wait until it goes again for next semester).

One thing for sure, I nearly miss my ViVa for the project. I just wanna get some rest before the presentation at 9 a.m., the thing was, I overslept and woke up at 10 a.m. Luckily, my classmate Ili Dayana called me and asked my whereabouts. I opened my eyes and straight head for bath. I got only 10 minutes to get to the studio and present. Alhamdulillah, I got there just in time. Otherwise, no marks for me.

Tired & Sleepless

Going crazy before ViVa

Let say, my presentation went well on 9th January 2012. Got positive feedback from the lecturers. They said that I'm an organized guy and undeniable of technical specifications. However I'm lack in arts. They loves my design but I still need to work on my art and sketches. Now that is a relieve. Finally a good news. Now I can go back home with a smile and have fun. Oh, I also wanna learn to sketch well. Homework for the semester break !!! I think I'm gonna go well for ID for the coming years.

Ideas development process:

The compilation of ideas and proposed final design

The project checklist and timeline

The air circulation of the space

Proposed final floor plan layout

Proposed bathroom design

Proposed hall design

Proposed work-space design

Destiny are written by ourselves

I was not born as a soldier. I grew up listen to others stories of their experiences. Their hardships. Even my grandpa is a service man. He was in the police force and well-known as Sjn. Misai by his comrades. Due to having a long sharp mustache. My dad also loves the military although he never got the chance to be in the service. He once selected to go to the RMC, but turned down due to medical check-up failure. Instead, he told me the time he was selected and that inspired me to continue his dream. He waited almost 20 years to send one of his sons to the college and I guess it's my luck. Perhaps my rezeki. Alhamdulillah.

There I was exposed to the hard life as a soldier. Our rank is lower that a private. More or less a boy recruit. Damn, that's really hard life. I can't imagine the first moment I stepped into the college, I knew my life is changing. Changing to a greater life. Being a partial soldier status but live in 24/7 camp environment. A real soldier life and trained to be gentlemen. A leader to all. An officer in the armed forces. A leader in corporate sector and even sports. In the year 2007, I graduated from the college as an Old Putera (OP).

Then, I pursued my study at UiTM Sarawak. At first I would like to avoid to join any uniform bodies organization. But, fate has its own way to tell us. I saw the Air Force ROTU booth. They told us that we are given free college during our study at the campus (LIES...). I got interested to the offer and sweet talk. Next thing I know, I signed up for the service. For 3 years, I realized I can't run from my military heritage that has matured inside me. Finally, I was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the RMAF Voluteer Reserve. Wow, an Air Force officer. Now I have fulfilled one of the college aims. Be an officer in the armed forces. And, what is the use of being an Air Force officer if you can't even fly a plane. Perhaps for the reserve force there are limited exposure and chances. Perhaps a private pilot license. Be like John Travolta, whom fly to work and park the jet in his plane porch. Insyaallah, I'll get my license. If it is not for my spectacles, I would have sign up for the Air Force College and be a fighter pilot. But, destiny has not been written. I still can have my chance and be a pilot, in my own way.

Destiny has its own plan for me. Since young I'm interested in the arts and architecture. Just I don't know where to start and how to learn it. Now, the chances are opened wide to me. Dad told me to go for Interior Design. Well, that's a good start although my heart longs to study in the architecture field. Maybe after I completed my degree. Deep in my heart, I knew the moment I was born into this world, Dad has planned everything for us,  including our names as the pray from both of my parents. A master builder. A palace builder.

From that moment, I knew I have a long road ahead of me. I need to make my parents proud of my achievement. My life is their investment and I want to be a good asset to them. A good son. A good leader of my generations. A terrific pilot. A well-known designer. Last but not least, a great builder. I want to serve both the civilian and armed forces. I know when the country is need of my service, I won't hesitate to go for it. Reasons for all of it, it's easy, I want to Serve to Lead and lead by giving inspiration to others. It symbolized hope. Hope for others to follow my footsteps as I has followed the previous leaders before me. That is how I define lead by examples.

It's in my blood and my name. Mohamad Amirin Arsyan Bin Mohamad Zainol. An admirable leader of the palace builder.
